Switzerland hospitality management bachelor's programmes take three or four years. All eight schools in this guide build paid work placements into the degree, from two to four of them.[1][2][3][4][5][6][7][9] Past that, the programmes are less alike than their titles suggest. Length, awarding body and number of internships all change from school to school.
How do the programmes differ?
Every row comes from the school's own programme page. If a page doesn't say, the cell says so.
| School | Degree title | Length | Internships | Campus |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| EHL | Bachelor of Science (HES-SO) in Hospitality Management[1] | 4 years including a preparatory year[1] | Two 6-month internships and a business project[1] | Lausanne[1] |
| Glion | Bachelor's in International Hospitality Business[2] | 1 + 3 years[2] | Three placements, length not given[2] | Switzerland/London[2] |
| Les Roches | Bachelor of Science in Global Hospitality Management[3] | 4 years, 180 ECTS[3] | Two, six months each[3] | Crans-Montana, Marbella, Abu Dhabi[3] |
| SHMS | Bachelor of Arts in International Hospitality Management, co-awarded with the University of Derby[4] | 3 years, 180 ECTS[4] | Two, six months each[4] | Caux and Leysin[4] |
| BHMS | Bachelor of Arts in Hotel & Hospitality Management[5] | 3 years, 180 ECTS[5] | Three, six months each[5] | Lucerne[5] |
| César Ritz | Bachelor of Science in Hospitality Business Management[6] | 4 years, 180 ECTS[6] | Two, length not given[6] | Brig[6] |
| HTMi | Bachelor's in International Hospitality Management: BSc from Ulster University and BA from HTMi[7] | 4 years[7] | Four, 4 to 6 months each[7] | Not named on the page[7] |
| Culinary Arts Academy | Culinary Arts degrees (kitchen-led, not hotel management)[9] | 3 years[9] | Two, six months each[9] | Le Bouveret and Brig[9] |
EHL's page isn't consistent about placements. The format section names two six-month internships, but the curriculum text also mentions shorter placements in the first two years.[1] Ask admissions for the exact count.
Who awards the degree?
Most families skip this column, and it's worth a look. SHMS co-awards its degree with the University of Derby in the UK.[4] HTMi gives you an Ulster University BSc plus a separate HTMi BA.[7] BHMS changes the award as you go. In Years 1 and 2 you earn diplomas awarded jointly with Pearson BTEC. In Year 3 you earn a dual award from BHMS and Robert Gordon University in the UK.[5] EHL's diploma carries the HES-SO name.[1]
Which schools does swissuniversities list?
swissuniversities, the body of Swiss higher education institutions, lists EHL under universities of applied sciences. Glion, Les Roches and César Ritz sit under "other institutions of the higher education sector", each labelled a university of applied sciences institute. You won't find SHMS, BHMS or HTMi on that page.[8] The list is for information only. For accreditation questions, the page points you to the Swiss Accreditation Council.[8]
Missing from that list doesn't make a degree worthless. It means you should check who awards it. If a UK university awards your degree, ask it how it treats the award where you plan to work or study next.
What does this mean for you?
Three questions will narrow eight schools quickly.
- How long can you be away from home? Three-year routes finish a year sooner than four-year ones. Some four-year routes, like EHL's, include a preparatory year.[1]
- Do you want more or fewer placements? Two internships and four are very different amounts of work experience. More placements isn't automatically better. Ask what you'd actually do, how you'd be supervised and who finds the role.
- Which award do you need? Match the degree title and awarding body to what you'll do next: a job, a master's or a regulated profession.
A note on where we stand. BHMS is an affiliated school, and we say so on our methodology page. We apply the same checks to all eight schools, and BHMS's row comes from its own programme page, like the others.
What to do next
Pick three schools from the table and line them up on the comparison page. Would you rather start from your budget, preferred setting and priorities? The five-step finder narrows the list for you. To go deeper on one school, open its profile under all schools, such as BHMS. Whatever you pick, get the current programme specification in writing before you pay anything.
